How often should you change all the cat litter?

Change all the cat litter at least once a week and wash the tray at the same time. Non-clumping litter often needs changing after a few days.

Even if you scoop daily, traces of urine and bacteria stay in the litter. A weekly change with a wash of the tray prevents smells and bacterial growth. Use water and a mild, unscented soap, because cats dislike strong smells.

  1. Throw away all the litter
  2. Wash the tray with warm water and mild, unscented soap
  3. Let it dry properly
  4. Fill it with a layer of fresh litter
