How often should you defrost your freezer?

Defrost your freezer once a year, or sooner as soon as the ice layer is thicker than 3 to 5 mm.

Ice reduces the cooling capacity and increases energy consumption. HG says 1 to 2 times a year. If you have a no-frost freezer, you don’t need to defrost.

1. Pick a moment when the freezer is (fairly) empty and move the contents to a cool box
2. Switch off the freezer and leave the door open
3. Catch meltwater with towels/a tray
4. Clean the inside and let it dry well before switching it back on

1.5 to 3 hours.
