How often can you give plasma?

In Belgium you may give plasma every 2 weeks. The yearly maximum differs: 26 donations with Rode Kruis Vlaanderen, 23 plasma donations with the Croix-Rouge in Wallonia and Brussels.

With a plasma donation you get your red blood cells back, which is why it can be done more often than giving blood. Rode Kruis Vlaanderen allows at most 26 donations a year when you combine blood, plasma and platelets, and there you wait at least 4 weeks after giving blood; the Croix-Rouge (Wallonia, Brussels) allows at most 23 plasma donations a year. It is a maximum, not an obligation.

  1. Check with Rode Kruis Vlaanderen or the Croix-Rouge whether you can donate
  2. Book an appointment at a plasma centre
  3. Drink enough beforehand
  4. Plan the next donation no sooner than 2 weeks later
