How often should you check your blood pressure?

From age 40, have your blood pressure measured every year.

The Dutch Heart Foundation writes that the risk of high blood pressure rises from age 40. High blood pressure often causes no symptoms, so measuring is the only way to know. You can do it at your GP, pharmacy or at home with a reliable monitor.

  1. Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring
  2. Measure on the upper arm with an approved monitor
  3. Write down the readings and the date
  4. Discuss a high reading with your GP
