Replace your smoke alarm battery once a year, if your alarm has a replaceable battery.
A flat battery makes the alarm useless, often without you noticing. Alarms with a sealed 10-year battery don’t need this. Test the alarm after every change.
- Take the smoke alarm off its mount
- Open the battery compartment and remove the old battery
- Insert a new battery of the right type
- Test the alarm and click it back onto the mount
