How often should you test your RCD?
Test your RCD with its test button every month. If that is not practical, do it at least twice a year, when the clocks change.
The RCD (residual current device) cuts the power when current leaks away, for example through a person. A mechanism that never moves can stick. ABB therefore recommends a monthly test with the test button.
- Save open work and switch off sensitive devices
- Press the test button (T) on the RCD
- Check that the switch trips immediately
- Switch it back on; if it does not trip, call an electrician
