How often should you trim your dog’s nails?
Trim most dogs’ nails about once a month. A dog that rarely walks on hard ground may need it every three weeks.
Nails that are too long change the way your dog walks and can cause pain or injury. Dogs that walk a lot on pavement wear them down naturally. If you hear the nails click on the floor, they are usually too long.
- Make sure you have good light and a calm dog
- Cut a little at a time, away from the quick
- If in doubt, stop and ask your vet to show you
- Reward your dog afterwards
