How often should you lube your bike chain?
Clean and lube your bike chain once a month. If you ride every day or often in the rain, do it every two weeks.
A dry or dirty chain wears faster, shifts less smoothly and also wears down the sprockets. Bike brand Veloci says once a month on average, Pro Velo every two weeks, and the Fietsersbond every few hundred kilometres or as soon as the chain squeaks. Wipe off excess oil, or dirt will stick to it.
- Wipe the chain clean with a cloth
- Use a chain cleaner for stubborn dirt if needed
- Apply a thin layer of bike oil to every link
- Wipe off excess oil so no dirt sticks to it
15 to 20 minutes.
- chain cleaner or cloth
- bike oil

This is a general guideline. Always follow the manual of your appliance or product too.
