How often should you back up your files?
Back up your important documents every day if you can. That’s easiest with an automatic backup to an external drive or the cloud.
A broken drive or a lost device can wipe out certificates, policies and photos for good. The Dutch NCSC recommends backing up regularly, preferably daily, and Safeonweb recommends an automatic copy in the cloud. Now and then, test whether you can really restore a file.
- Set up an automatic backup to an external drive or cloud storage
- Make sure scanned certificates, policies and important photos are in the backed-up folder
- Quickly check that today’s backup worked
- Now and then, test whether you can restore a file from the backup
1 to 5 minutes.
- external drive or cloud storage
Your routine is only saved once you confirm. No account, on this device.
This is a general guideline. Always follow the manual of your appliance or product too.
