How often should you review your home insurance?
Review your fire insurance (home insurance) once a year, especially the insured value of your home and contents.
An outdated policy can leave you underinsured when damage occurs. Assuralia, the Belgian association of insurers, recommends adjusting the insured value every year in line with the ABEX index. After a renovation, a large purchase or a new installation such as solar panels, it’s best to contact your insurer straight away.
- Read through the insured amounts and cover
- Compare them with recent renovations, purchases or increases in the value of your contents
- Check whether new risks (e.g. solar panels, aquarium, BBQ structure) are covered
- Contact your insurer if in doubt or to make changes
20 to 30 minutes.

In Belgium, home insurance is usually called fire insurance; it covers your home and often your contents too.
Your routine is only saved once you confirm. No account, on this device.
This is a general guideline. Always follow the manual of your appliance or product too.
