How often do you need to file a tax return?

File a tax return every year, or check your proposed simplified return. The deadline is on your return or in MyMinfin.

In Belgium you must in principle file a return every year. In 2026 the deadlines are 30 June on paper and 19 July via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web); with specific income, 31 October. If you receive a proposed simplified return, you only need to act if the details are wrong.

1. Gather pay slips, certificates and tax forms
2. Log in to MyMinfin (Tax-on-web) or open your paper return
3. Check the pre-filled details and add what is missing
4. Submit before the deadline and keep a copy

Belgium: you must in principle file a tax return every year, unless you receive a correct proposed simplified return. Deadlines differ each year and are listed on fin.belgium.be.

Netherlands: the income tax return must arrive before the date in your letter, often 1 May. In Belgium personal income tax is federal; the deadlines are the same in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels.
