How often should you bleed your radiators?

Bleed your radiators once a year, in early autumn at the start of the heating season.

Air in the circuit keeps a radiator cold at the top and lowers the efficiency of your whole system. If a radiator stays warm at the bottom and cold at the top, there’s air in it. Check your boiler’s water pressure after bleeding.

1. Turn on the heating and feel which radiators stay warm at the bottom but cold at the top
2. Switch off the circulation pump or set the boiler to a low setting
3. Carefully open the bleed screw until air and then water escapes, then close it again
4. Afterwards, check the boiler’s water pressure and top up if needed

20 to 40 minutes.
