How often should you check your boiler’s water pressure?

Check your central heating boiler’s water pressure on the pressure gauge once a year and top up if needed.

Pressure that’s too low can make your boiler shut down, pressure that’s too high strains the system. Bosch and Vaillant recommend checking once a year whether you need to top up; for an older boiler, Bosch recommends every 6 months. If the pressure keeps dropping, have a professional take a look. The right value is in your manual, usually 1 to 2 bar with a cold boiler.

1. Read the pressure gauge on the boiler
2. Compare with the recommended pressure in the manual (usually 1 to 2 bar cold)
3. Top up via the filling valve if the pressure is too low
4. Close the filling valve properly and check again
