How often does your car need a roadworthiness test?
In Flanders, a passenger car goes for inspection every 2 years, after a first inspection 4 years after first registration. In Wallonia and Brussels, it’s every year after that first inspection.
Without a valid inspection certificate you may not drive, and a car that hasn’t been inspected can have unnoticed defects. Since 1 September 2026, the 2-yearly inspection in Flanders applies to all passenger cars; before that, older cars still had to go every year. Check the deadline on your own inspection certificate.

The interval follows the region where you have the car inspected: every 2 years in Flanders, every year in Wallonia and Brussels. Other rules apply to other vehicles, such as light vans.
