How often should you check consumable aquarium filter media?
Check filter floss and cartridges monthly and replace them according to your product’s instructions. Use and replace activated carbon according to its purpose and product instructions. Do not routinely replace biological sponges.
There is no universal replacement interval for all filter media. Tetra gives a monthly interval for its filter cartridge; JBL distinguishes floss, biological media and activated carbon. JBL replaces floss when cleaning the filter; biological media are rinsed when needed. Activated carbon is removed or replaced after its intended use according to the product instructions. Preserve biological filtration.
