How often should you turn your compost heap?

Turn your compost heap every 2 months, from spring to autumn.

Without turning, the heap compacts, decomposition slows down and it can start to smell due to a lack of oxygen. Stihl says every 2 to 3 months in the growing season, and at least once a year.

1. Move the dry top layer aside
2. Turn the moist material over from bottom to top
3. Check the moisture: add water or dry material if needed
4. Replace the cover against too much rain

20 to 30 minutes.
