How often should you feed houseplants?
Feed houseplants liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer, or twice if they grow fast. In winter, feed no more than once a month.
The RHS recommends one or two feeds a month during the growing season, from March to October. In winter, plants barely grow because of the low light and take up little food. Only feed onto moist compost.
- Water normally first
- Dilute the liquid feed as the packaging says
- Pour it onto the moist compost
- Skip feeding for sick or freshly repotted plants
